Brescome Barton and Worldwide Wines hosted a cocktail competition featuring Barr Hill Gin at Hartford’s Parkville Market on Aug. 29. Held in the food hall’s upstairs bar, The Local, the Bartender Throwdown brought together 12 contenders who mixed up their best craft cocktails featuring Barr Hill Gin, made by Caledonia Spirits of Vermont, for judges Jamie Oakes, Millwright’s; Khalid Williams, The Barrel Age; Ed Sherman, CT and RI Market Representative, Caledonia Spirits; and Taylor Kinzler, Host of “CT Live” on NBC CT. The top three winners were Alfredo Gonzalez Barrera, ATC South Street; Kyle Philson, Sawyer’s Bar & Grill; and Shayne Bingham, NoHo Hospitality Group. Parkville Market is also a collaborator with Barr Hill Gin during the brand’s annual nationwide Bee’s Knees week, an effort founded and spearheaded by Caledonia Spirits. Bars and restaurants create the classic Bee’s Knees cocktails featuring Barr Hill Gin, which is made with raw Northern honey, and for each cocktail sold, donations are aimed toward the protection and preservation of honeybees. Charitable partner Stonewall Apiary built an interactive bee installation on Parkville Market’s patio to kick off the week on Sept. 23.
