Best Beverage added 2019 Domaine de Castelnau Cuvée L’Etang Picpoul de Pinet. One of only 20 independent Domaines left in the appellation, as co-ops account for nearly 80% of Picpoul de Pinet production today. The 100% Picpoul hails from the rich marine fauna and flora of the neighboring lagoon, L’Etang de Thau, a habitat for migrating birds including grey herons and pink flamingos with the latter adorning the label of Domaine de Castelnau’s Cuvée L’Etang. The single varietal bottling is ripe with lemon-citrus oil and mineral characteristics of the grape and region, with a smooth and rich texture from a brief sur-lie resting period over the winter before bottling.
