South County Distillers Hosts Rum Night

By September 28, 2023Rhode Island, Top News

Westerly’s Grey Sail Brewing of Rhode Island hosted a Rum Night featuring the newest aged spirits from its sister company, South County Distillers, for a tropical-themed release party on Aug. 16. The team took its one-, two- and three-year-old South County rums aged in various bourbon and rye barrels and blended them together to create a spirit golden in color with subtle oak and bourbon on the nose and dominant baking spices on the palate. Called South County Distillers Barreled Rum, the beverage was added to the company’s existing rum lineup. The new rum offers allspice, nutmeg and a hint of cinnamon on the nose and palate, with a creamy, buttery, vanilla frosting finish, noting that “this unique spirit works fine on its own as a dessert in a glass, but if you prefer a cocktail, it makes a mean Painkiller or Mai Tai.” At 80 proof, 40% ABV, the rum is aged in South County Bourbon, Buffalo Trace Bourbon and Sagamore Rye barrels. Opened by Jennifer and Alan Brinton in the converted 1920s-era Westerly Macaroni Factory, the brewery began operations on Nov. 11, 2011. Both Grey Sail Brewing and South County Distillers are distributed in Rhode Island via McLaughlin & Moran, Inc.
