Freixenet Mionetto USA, in collaboration with Slocum & Sons, hosted a pairing dinner featuring wines from Italian producer Pertinace at Joanne’s Table in Fairfield on March 20. Special guest and Export Manager Elena Orberto presented the wines to guests, providing the winery’s history and its current sustainability initiatives. The evening began with a tasting of three varietals: Pertinace Dolcetto d’Alba 2021, the house wine of the region; Barbera d’Alba 2021; and Langhe Nebbiolo 2021. Guests tasted the new Barbera and Nebbiolo, both of which will be available in the market starting in July, concluding with a second flight of wines: Pertinace Barolo 2019, Barbaresco Classico 2019 and Barbaresco Cru Marcarini 2018. Located in the Piedmont region of Italy in Treiso, one of the three Barbaresco towns in the heart of the Langhe Hills, Pertinace’s roots date back to 1973 and today it is part of a cooperative of 20 growers who continue to focus production on the Nebbiolo grape—the base for its Barbaresco Classico and single-vineyard Cru Marcarini and Nervo. Pertinace’s environmental and sustainability efforts are recognized with the SQNPI Bumble Bee emblem as seen on its labels. The winery also boasts Equalitas certification for its efforts in promoting economic, social and environmental sustainability with environmentally sound agricultural methods and cellar practices.
