The Newport Beer Festival returned to Fort Adams State Park on April 19. In its 13th year, the event offered beer lovers local and regional brew tastes. Representatives from close to 50 craft breweries from brewers guilds across New England poured more than 100 different beers at tasting stations throughout the scenic location. Guests also enjoyed food from local vendors and live music by the Z-Boys during the afternoon. In the spirit of Earth Week, festivalgoers were encouraged to bring their own plastic can carriers for proper recycling and reuse. Each can carrier deposited in the Rhode Island Brewers Guild (RIBG) receptacle was good for one entry into the winner-take-all raffle, featuring more than $1,000 in brewery, sponsor and exhibitor prizes. Proceeds benefited the RIBG, whose mission is to support and promote craft breweries in the state.
