Connecticut DCP News: Delivery Extension for January 2024

December 7, 2023

From the Office of M. Caitlin S. Anderson

Liquor Control Division Director

RE: Delivery Extension Approved for January 2024

The Department received a written request filed by the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of Connecticut, Inc. (“WSWC”) requesting permission to deliver alcohol beverage products ordered in January 2024 through Friday, February 2, 2024.

The Department reviewed this request, which highlights: (1) the high number of out-of-stock products in the market, (2) the nature of the January calendar ending on a Wednesday, and (3) the general increase in costs due to the rising price of materials.  Specifically, January is a “buy-in” month with reduced prices on popular products, which creates a period of high demand  particularly in the final days of the month before the prices increase.  Because January ends on a Wednesday, the WSWC claims it will make completion of the increased deliveries by the end of each month more difficult.  Brescome Barton objected to the request, claiming January has adequate business days to complete orders.

Following review of both the request and the objection, the Department approves the request to extend delivery of products ordered in January 2024 until February 2, 2024. This approval extends to all Connecticut wholesalers. Please note that this approval pertains to extension of delivery only and not to the placing of orders.  All orders must still be placed by January 31, 2024.
