Diageo’s Crown Royal Purple Bag Project and Packages From Home showcased a care packages station at a gala dinner. Hosted by Our Community Hero’s Inc. at Anthony’s Ocean View in New Haven on July 13, the event was held in honor of fallen Bristol police officers Lt. Dustin DeMonte and Sgt. Alex Hamzy, who were killed in the line of duty on Oct. 12, 2022. Our Community Hero’s Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to hosting charitable events to offer help to public service providers and their families and to honor those in their communities who have served and been impacted. The event was co-hosted by Gil Simmons, Chief Meteorologist, WTNH-TV 8, with an opening ceremony by the New Haven County Firefighters Emerald Society Pipes and Drums. The Connecticut State Police Honor Guard presented the color guard ceremony. Guests enjoyed a multicourse dinner set to the backdrop of music by John “The Cadillac” Saville and a silent auction fundraiser. Guests helped to put together care packages for troops at a Crown Royal Purple Bag Project and Packages From Home station hosted by Diageo through its Diageo Salutes the Troops initiative.
