Motif Magazine hosted the start of its second annual cocktail competition series at Dusk in Providence on May 30, part of a series for the summer. This year’s event was in collaboration with Smoke Lab Vodka, which was featured as its sponsor spirit. Smoke Lab Vodka, distributed in Rhode Island by Horizon Beverage Co., is made by the NV Group, one of India’s largest distillers and brewers. The luxury vodka is distilled five times using ultra-modern charcoal filtration for an ultra-pure spirit, 40% ABV. Smoke Lab Classic Vodka was awarded a Double Gold Medal and a Consumers’ Choice Award at the 2022 SIP Awards, and a Gold Medal at the 2022 San Francisco World Spirits Awards. Smoke Lab Aniseed Vodka, 37.5% ABV, offers an exploration of the Indian herb, also called saunf. Refreshing notes of fennel and licorice accompany the pure vodka taste. It’s newest addition, Smoke Lab Saffron, just entered U.S. markets. Four bartenders competed using Smoke Lab Aniseed: Dave “Sasquatch,” Owner, Galactic Theatre, who took the winning slot; Max Prussner, Kimi’s Bar, who placed second; Corinne Southern, Pump House Music Works and The Parlour, who placed third; and Irene Yibirin. Judges were Smoke Lab Vodka Representatives Patrick Bailey and Tina Fogg and Dusk Head Bartender Danielle Tellier.
