Narragansett Beer honored the 50th anniversary of “Jaws,” the blockbuster film where ’Gansett got its Hollywood cameo. Captain Quint, played by the legendary Robert Shaw, crushes a cold can of the iconic lager in a critical scene. Five decades since that moment on screen on June 20, 1975, ’Gansett brought back the limited-edition 1975 throwback cans, the same design that starred in the movie. 2025 marks 135 years since Narragansett was first brewed in 1890 and 20 years since its revival in 2005. Since then, ’Gansett has earned the No. 1 spot for domestic premium lagers on BeerAdvocate and cracked the Brewers Association’s Top 20 American Craft Breweries of 2024. “Narragansett’s cameo in ‘Jaws’ isn’t just a cool trivia fact—it’s a badge of honor,” said Mark Hellendrung, CEO of Narragansett Beer and fellow fan of fins, films and crisp, cold lager. “That can-crushing moment connected us with generations of movie lovers and beer drinkers. Fifty years later, we’re still proud to be part of the legacy of a film that changed cinema—and summer—forever. This celebration is our way of saying thanks.” The brewery will be hosting several events in July, which can be found on its website, as well as with its on- and off-premise partners.
