Mendoza, Argentina-based Achaval Ferrer announced on June 17 that it acquired Melipal Winery and Vineyards located in Agrelo, Mendoza, positioning the acclaimed producers for expansion and growth. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The acquisition of Melipal Winery and Vineyards “complements the assets” of Achaval Ferrer and enables a capacity to enter new markets. Established in 2003, Melipal Winery owns 74 hectares of vineyards in Luján de Cuyo, a winery and portfolio that includes Melipal and Ikella. With the acquisition comes the “Las Nazarenas” Malbec vineyard planted in 1923. Achaval Ferrer, one of the pioneers in bringing the Malbec varietal to the world, was founded in 1998 and has a long-standing commitment to the highest international standards of sustainable viticulture, with an environmental plan and corporate social responsibility program.
