Angelini Wine, Ltd., showcased Italian wine portfolio selections during a wine tasting by The Amity Club of New Haven on Nov. 17 at The Woodwinds in Branford. The company offered an elegant night of wine to benefit The Amity Trust, Benhaven Autism Resources & Services and the Sons and Daughters of Italy in Derby. Angelini Wine’s Laura Lombardi showcased Il Borro Lamelle Chardonnay, Pian di Nova Toscana, Polissena Sangiovese and Toscana, among wines. Located in the historic Valdarno di Sopra DOC appellation in central Tuscany, the Il Borro estate is home to one of the oldest wine cellars in Italy and the site where the first Chianti wine was ever produced. The Il Borro estate employs bio-sustainable farming methods to grow its grapes—using natural fertilizers, no pesticides and renewable energy practices—and is considered a carbon-neutral estate. Also showcased were Marotti Campi wines. In the mid-19th century, the Marotti family purchased the land in Sant’Amico, part of Italy’s Le Marche region, and it remains a 100% family-owned vineyard today. Marotti Campi is situated near the medieval village of Morro d’Alba and the estate totals 120 hectares, most of which is planted with the two indigenous varieties of Lacrima and Verdicchio. Marotti Campi creates fresh examples of these ancient varieties through its wine.
