Beer Data Shows Upward Sales Shift

By March 23, 2023Top News

The National Beer Wholesalers Association released the Beer Purchasers’ Index (BPI) for February 2023, showing a potential, more positive outlook over last year. The BPI report stated that six out of 12 months indicated too much inventory in distributor warehouses. “The February results reflect a BPI of 54 and an ARI of 46. After two disruptive years in 2021 and 2022, this is positive news for the beer industry,” the report continued. The index for imports showed a reading of 62; premium light posted 46; premium regular segment index is 41; premium segment is 53, joining the import segment in expanding (above 50) territory; and FMB/seltzer segment rose 40, with each segment showing an improvement over the same time last year. BPI measures expected beer demand, surveying beer distributors’ purchases across different segments, and compares them to previous years. A reading greater than 50 indicates the segment is expanding, while a reading below 50 indicates a contraction.
