A holiday charity event for Project Broken Wheel, led by Twin River Casino employees. Volunteers for Project Broken Wheel Workshops are needed for two days to help refurbish bikes to be given to children in need throughout Rhode Island. Twin River Casino employees and volunteers refurbish donated bicycles on-site and prepare them to be delivered to local community organizations. The donated bikes get seat replacements, tires repaired, chains fixed, reflectors placed on tires and the front and back of the bike, touch up paint and a holiday bow.

Over the last 8 years, the program has donated 964 bicycles to local children’s organizations, including Manville Family Literacy Center, Lincoln Adopt-A-Family, Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, Institute for the Study & Practice of Non-Violence, Martin Luther King Family Center, Children & Family Services, Saint Lucy Heart, Salve Regina University Scholarship Program & local underprivileged families in the area. This year, organizers hope to donate an additional 50 bicycles to children during the holiday season.

The inaugural Bocce for Bikes event is set to benefit Project Broken Wheel Foundation at Jerry Longo’s Meatball and Martinis. The benefit event welcomes teams of two to sign up and play against another team. All teams will receive a complimentary three-course dinner and cocktails from sponsors. Overall prizes will be awarded for the highest score, lowest score, best team outfits, best AND worst bocce throw, and overall team score. Registration is $50 per team with all funds directly going towards Project Broken Wheel Foundation.

 The Project Broken Wheel Foundation refurbishes bicycles from communities across Rhode Island, with volunteers doing seat replacements, tires repaired, chains fixed, reflectors placed on tires/front and back of the bike, touch up paint and some TLC to make the bikes look close to brand new. Over the course of the 11 years the program more than 1,200 bicycles have been donated to local children’s organizations (Manville Family Literacy Center, Lincoln Adopt-A-Family, Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, Institute for the Study & Practice of Non-Violence, Martin Luther King Family Center, Children & Family Services, Saint Lucy Heart, Salve Regina University Scholarship Program and local, underprivileged families in the area.

Torrington’s Warner Theatre will host its Annual Wine & Food Tasting and fundraiser on March 25, 2022. Held in partnership with Torrington’s The Cork Fine Wine & Spirits, the event will feature a masquerade party, along with tastings of wine, local craft beer, spirits and food from local restaurants, all taking place in the theatre’s Main and Studio Theatre lobbies. A VIP hour will be hosted in the VIP room, located in the Nancy Marine Studio Theatre, where guests will be treated to a private tasting of premium wine and spirits with catered cuisine and fine chocolates, along with live entertainment. Sponsored by Thomaston Savings Bank, Elevator Service Company, Ace Hardware of Litchfield, Litchfield County Business Professionals and T&M Building Co., Inc., the event benefits the Warner Theatre, a non-profit performing arts center bringing an array of concerts and cultural events to the northwestern Connecticut area. The Cork Fine Wine & Spirits will also donate 10% of its sales from the evening to benefit Warner Theatre. Event is 21+ with valid ID required.
