Craft Beer Guild Distributing of Connecticut, Blueprint Spirits division, added new “American table whiskies” Deadwood Rye Whiskey and Deadwood Bourbon Whiskey from spirits maker Proof and Wood. Owned by Connecticut resident Dave Schmier, who was Co-creator of Redemption Rye among other spirits brands, the new line is named for the town of Deadwood, where Wild Bill Hickok famously played his last game of poker. Deadwood Rye Whiskey is a blend of two mash bills: one with 95% rye and the other 70% rye. Distilled in Indiana and Tennessee, the spirit is bottled in Kentucky at 41.5% ABV. Deadwood Bourbon Whiskey is an Indiana rye, with a mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% barley at 81 proof. Both the rye and bourbon are aged, blended and bottled in Bardstown, Kentucky, in batches of about 20 barrels at a time. Higher-end selections include Tumblin’ Dice, a heavy rye mash bill bourbon, 60% corn, 36% rye, 4% barley, bottled at 100 proof; a limited edition of Tumblin’ Dice 4 Year Single Barrel Barrel Proof; and Roulette Rye. In time for the 2020 presidential election, the Presidential Dram series debuted and several selections are offered: limited-edition Presidential Dram Single Barrel Rye and Single Barrel Bourbon. Relatedly available are The Senator Barrel Proof Straight Rye Whiskey, The Justice Barrel Proof Straight Bourbon Whiskey, The Representative Barrel Proof Small Batch Bourbon Whiskey and The Ambassador Barrel Proof Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Proof and Wood also makes rum, offering The Funk, an unaged Jamaican pot still that is 100 proof, and Exodus, a blend of Jamaican pot- and column-distilled rum, aged and finished in Kentucky, at 84 proof.
