Horizon Beverage Co. of Rhode Island highlights two new craft brew brands for showcasing in the new year: Atlanta, Georgia’s SweetWater Brewing Company and Stratford, Connecticut-based Athletic Brewing Co. SweetWater brewery has been brewing in the heart of the South since 1997. The award-winning lineup of year-round beers includes SweetWater 420 Extra Pale Ale, H.A.Z.Y. IPA, High Light Lo-Cal Easy IPA and the 420 Strain IPA series among them, available on draft, in six-packs of 12-ounce bottles. Aphria Inc., a global cannabis company headquartered in Canada, acquired the brewery in 2018 for $300 million with founder Freddy Bensch remaining as CEO. Stratford, Connecticut-based Athletic Brewing Co., a first to offer its craft nonalcoholic beer to Rhode Island, is brewed with “today’s healthy and active beer lover” in mind – and the new offering aligns with New Year’s resolutions. The team wanted to address the limited nonalcoholic beer as well as create brews with hop flavor and aroma and a true craft character. Made with an artisanal approach, Athletic Brewing Co.’s beers are fully fermented and the ingredients express their most delicate compounds. Its flagship beers Run Wild IPA and Upside Dawn Golden Ale are now available at less than 0.5% ABV.
- SweetWater Brewing Company’s flagship 420 Extra Pale Ale is dry hopped with a “fat stash of Cascade hops.” Among its core offerings, the 5.7% ABV, 39 IBU offers a floral, fresh and an herbal taste.
- 420 Strain is a 6% ABV aromatic IPA offering that mimics the aroma of the G13 cannabis strain. The brew uses botanically sourced, strain-specific terpenes and marries them with proprietary natural hemp-type flavor, complementing the Cascade and Simcoe hops, among other ingredients.
- H.A.Z.Y. IPA is 6.2% ABV double dry hopped brew of Mosaic, Citra, El Dorado and Azacca hops for a blast of mango, stone fruit, lime and pine.
- High Light Lo-Cal is a low-calorie “easy IPA” and is infused with hop hash at a sessionable 4% ABV, with 100 calories and 5g carbs per 12-ounce serving.
- Nonalcoholic craft beer from Connecticut-based Athletic Brewing Co.: Run Wild IPA, brewed with a blend of five Northwest hops, with an approachable bitterness to balance the specialty malt body at only 70 calories.
- Upside Dawn Golden Ale, a classic craft golden ale brewed with premium organic malts from the U.S. and Germany along with a combination of English and traditional American hops.
