Diageo announced its plans to invest an initial $2 million to develop the Stitzel-Weller Visitor Center at the historic Louisville, KY distillery, which first opened on Derby Day in 1935. The company said it will first renovate the original administrative building, and also “bring to life” a new visitor center through artifacts from the site’s archive and showcase education of the heritage, brands and people behind the storied history. Diageo aims to finish the first phase by Derby Day 2014 and complete the visitor center, welcome center and gift shop this summer.
