Wine Twist Import showcased the wines of Italy’s Antica Hirpinia with a trade tasting and education at The Sunset Grille in Watertown on Sept. 10. The wines were highlighted as part of the Wine Experiences of the World project, funded by the European Union and the OCM Wine Third Countries 2023/2024. Antica Hirpinia Owners and husband and wife Bianco Ciriaco and Rosaria Guarino, with Carmine Valle of Wine Twist Import, presented the wines to guests and provided pairing suggestions and insights into the unique characteristics and history of each wine. During the afternoon, guests tasted Antica Hirpinia Fiano di Avellino, Irpinia Falanghina, Greco di Tufo, Irpinia Aglianico, Taurasi, Taurasi Riserva and Irpinia Coda di Volpe. A second event, a wine dinner featuring the wines of Antica Hirpinia, was hosted at Echo Craft Kitchen in Watertown on Sept. 9. Located in the Campania region of Southern Italy, Antica Hirpinia began as a wine cooperative in Taurasi in 1959 and in 2016 was taken over by a group of friends who use sustainable winemaking practices to continue to produce its famed wines from its 31 hectares of vineyards, which include Fiano, Greco, Falanghina, Coda di Volpe and Aglianico varietals.
