Kumusha South African Wines Joins Fine Terroir

By April 29, 2022Connecticut, Top News

Created by Sommelier Tinashe Nyumudoka, the Kumusha wine line offers the finest expressions of terroir from South Africa.

Fine Terroir Selection welcomed South African winery, Kumusha, created and made by the first Black sommelier from the region to launch a wine line. Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Tinashe Nyumudoka moved to South Africa for better economic prospects. Without any prior experience with wine, his journey took him from waiter to head sommelier of Africa’s most lauded restaurant, The Test Kitchen, and also to a role as a respected wine judge in international competitions. Nyumudoka’s friendship with Attie Louw, a winemaker from the family estate Opstal in the Slanghoek Valley, led to the opportunity to blend his own wines; and in 2017, Kumusha Wines was founded. New to Connecticut are: Flame Lily, a white blend of Roussanne, Chenin Blanc, Colombar and Semillon; Kumusha Cabernet Sauvignon & Cinsault; Kumusha Pinotage; Kumusha Sondagskloof Sauvignon Blanc; Kumusha Western Cape Cabernet Sauvignon; Kumusha Western Cape Chardonnay; Kumusha Cinsault Rosé; and Kumusha Chenin Blanc Breedekloof. Kumusha, from Nyumudoka’s native Shona language, means “your roots,” “your home” or “your origin,” an homage to his belief that “the best wines reflect where they grow.”
