
Manchester’s Market Grille, in collaboration with Craft Connecticut Distributing, hosted a Taste of New Orleans themed Proof and Wood Bourbon Dinner on Feb. 23. Proof and Wood Ventures is a Connecticut-based spirits company that buys, sells, ages and bottles American whiskey and three rum expressions and is building a portfolio of world spirits, including a Genever imported from the Netherlands. Dave Schmier, Connecticut resident, Founder of Redemption Rye Whiskey and Owner of Deadwood Bourbon Whiskey, Tumblin’ Dice Rye and the DC line of whiskeys, which includes The Senator Barrel Proof Straight Rye Whiskey and The Representative Barrel Proof Straight Bourbon Whiskey, was on hand to guide the evening’s tasting of several of the bourbons, each paired with a four-course menu created by the Market Grille team showcasing tastes inspired by Mardi Gras and the Big Easy. The event also showcased cocktails created with Proof and Wood spirits paired with each course.

- Guests enjoyed tastes of The Stranger, a Polish whiskey, with a 100% rye mash bill, aged seven years in the U.S. in ex-bourbon and ex-rye barrels.
- A Sazerac made with The Senator Barrel Proof Straight Rye Whiskey accompanied Cajun surf and turf, while The Representative Barrel Proof Straight Bourbon Whiskey accompanied the classic Manhattan cocktail, paired with fried catfish.
