McLaughlin & Moran Adds Tapped Apple Brand

By January 23, 2024Rhode Island, Top News

The family-owned, Westerly-based Tapped Apple Cidery & Winery can now be found with state distributors McLaughlin & Moran, Inc. In 2003, John Wiedenheft III started making wine using 5-gallon carboys in his basement as a hobby, eventually using grapes from California and partnering with his son, John IV. In 2005, the pair began working with apples, adding supplemental ingredients such as cherries, elderberries and even hops to their homemade craft wines and ciders using local fruit grown in North Scituate. In 2017, the team created Tapped Apple Cidery & Winery and brought a tasting room to downtown Westerly, now serving Tapped Apple hard ciders and wines from seed to bushel to bottle. Outside of its tasting room, year-round ciders include First Bite, Crab Apple, Blueberry Vanilla, Pomegranate and Black Currant, with seasonal ciders including Pineapple, Gravenstein, Passionfruit, Brown Sugar Peach, and Cranberry and its local collaboration, Tap 37 Sons of Liberty Bourbon Barrel Aged. Wines include Watch Hill White (like a pinot noir), Cerise Noir (dark cherry and apple wine blend), Pomme D’Amour (rosé from apples) and Apple Pie (dessert wine).
