Mews Tavern in Wakefield was honored with a Legacy Award from the Southern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce in August. Located in the heart of downtown Wakefield, Mews Tavern is one of South County’s iconic establishments. Originally, a small fisherman’s tavern which opened in 1947, owners David Barnes and Dan Rubino have created a now-legendary Rhode Island restaurant known for its extensive beers-on-tap program, three bar areas and diverse, seasonal food offerings. Of the recognition, the Mews team said, “Thank you to Southern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce for honoring us with the Legacy Award. We are the proud recipient of an award honoring our longevity and resilience as a business within the Rhode Island community. And, of course, we are immensely grateful to everyone for their support and making Mews Tavern what it is.” Mews Tavern’s Shelby Miller-Sylvia added: “It’s definitely been a tough year for all in the industry but being recognized by our community has really been a great morale booster. We hope to keep serving up great beer for 30 more years.” On August 27, the venue was named Best Neighborhood Bar in South County and Best Beer on Tap, Statewide, by online voters in the 2020 Rhode Island Monthly “Best of” awards.
