Narragansett Beer Brings Back Porter

By January 27, 2018Rhode Island, Top News

For the first time since 2012, Narragansett Beer is brewing its award-winning Porter. It gets its subtle base of bittersweet chocolate and a hint of smokiness from a blend of Chinook hops for bittering and Simcoe hops for aroma, along with Pale, Carapils, Crystal, Chocolate Wheat, Midnight Wheat and roasted barley. The Porter is a 7% ABV and 28 IBU American-style porter. It was first brewed in 1916. From 1920 through 1933, Narragansett Brewing Company was granted one of only six patents issued by the U.S. government to brew the beer for “medicinal purposes,” as people largely believed that the Porter had strong healing effects. Narragansett Porter is available in four-packs of 16-ounce cans.
