The seventh annual Newport Oyster & Chowder Festival, a celebration of Rhode Island’s marine community, returned to Bowen’s Wharf on May 20-21. Guests enjoyed food from local restaurants and oysters from several Rhode Island-based oyster growers, along with beverages and live music on Newport’s waterfront throughout the weekend. Sponsors included Guinness, Whalers Brewing Company, Vita Coco Spiked with Captain Morgan, Loyal 9 Cocktails, Ketel One Botanical Vodka Spritz, Don Julio Tequila, Bulleit Frontier Whiskey and Surv. The festival partnered with Clean Ocean Access, whose Green Team volunteers managed waste stations and helped festival attendees separate landfill waste from composted materials, recycled items and oyster shells, in support of the organization’s Healthy Soils Healthy Seas RI initiative.
