Opici Family Distributing of Connecticut highlighted imported portfolio items new to state distribution. First was Barón de Ley, a family-owned winery located in Spain’s celebrated Rioja region. Housed in a centuries-old monastery, where the monks made wine more than 500 years ago, Barón de Ley was founded in 1985 as a ground-breaking project in the DOCa Rioja, crafting a range of wines through four lines: Classics, Seduction, Viñas and Varietales. Finca Museum, a wine project within the Barón de Ley company, crafts its red Crianza wines outside of Rioja. Founded in 2000, the group makes its quality, singular-terroir Spanish wines in the DO Cigales, one of Spain’s smallest winemaking regions. New Zealand import Strange Nature Gin offers a grape-based gin made from the spirit of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Part tropical and zesty, part herbaceous, Strange Nature, a grape-to-glass spirit, bears all the quintessential natural flavors. Lokita Blanco Tequila is a new artisanal tequila from Jalisco, Mexico, handcrafted as a small-batch tequila made from only the highest-quality blue agave that’s harvested at prime maturity.
