Three new rum expressions from Colombia’s Ron Medellin arrived in Rhode Island, available via Mancini Beverage – Rhode Island Distributing division. The pure Colombian rum from Medellin first began in 1919, in the second-largest city of Colombia, at a distillery called la Fabrica de Licores y Alcoholes de Antioquia (FLA). By 1936, it produced over 6,000 bottles of spirits per day. In 1968, the distillery in use today was built and opened in its place. But it was the year 1946 when David Cadavid Gónima decided to produce “true Colombian Ron,” calling it simply Ron Medellin, whose rums are not made using any harsh chemical treatment, only the naturally occurring aging process in wood barrels, and made with the finest sugar cane selected from exceptional fields of various regions of Colombia. Ron Medellin 3YR Old Naturally Oak Aged is a light golden rum with an intense aroma of wood and vanilla, aged in American oak barrels at over 5,000 feet above sea level. Ron Medellin 8YR Old Naturally Oak Aged is a dark golden color with smooth flavors and aromas of smoke, wood, floral, vanilla and tobacco. Ron Medellin 12YR Old Naturally Oak Aged is a dark copper and golden color, offering finesse, roundness and delicacy.
