Slocum & Sons welcomed new wine imports. First is Alphonse Mellot Sancerre wines, including Gen XIX Wine19 Generations (19 Generations) of Sancerre, France, with all farming organic and certified biodynamic since 1996. In 2013, the historic estate celebrated its 500th anniversary and 19 successive generations of winegrowers, with Alphonse Mellot Jr. now at the helm. Two new wines from Julie Batard and La Closerie du Loup, Prélude and Racines, are the first two cuvées, red wines from the heart of Saint-Lanne. Clos Henri is home to organic Marlborough, New Zealand, wines, made in the foothills of the Wairau Valley. Since its establishment in 2000, the estate is headed by members of the famous winegrowing family of Henri Bourgeois from Sancerre. Drawing on more than 200 years of winegrowing expertise from the family, Clos Henri crafts organic wines that are textural and elegant. Champagne Louis Nicaise is located in the heart of the premier cru village Hautvillers, where the Nicaise family has been growing grapes and producing Champagnes for four generations. And finally, Maison Jeeper was founded in 1949 by Armand Gourtobe, a winemaker whose legs were injured while rescuing American soldiers during WWII in France. To honor him, the United States Army gifted Gourtobe a Willys Jeep, which he used to tour his vineyard, thus earning him the nickname “Jeeper Man” by the local villagers and his namesake wines.
