Figures from the Food & Drink Federation (FDF) found that UK whisky exports were down by 28.5% in volume and by 36.4% in value to $3.5 billion in the first nine months of 2024, compared with the same period of the previous year’s measurement. Whisky, a top UK export, followed by salmon, cheese and chocolate, fell by 10.2%, considered to be a “significant drop” by the trade association, which released its data just before 2024’s end. Comparatively, food and nonalcoholic drinks exports were up slightly by 1.2% to $15.5 billion. The U.S. is the UK’s third-largest export market, with more than 10% of all British food and drink exports accounted for. UK gin exports to the U.S. fell by 37.1% in volume and by 38.1% in value. The UK-based FDF is a membership-based organization representing food and drink manufacturers.
