The Comité Champagne announced that in 2019 a total of 297,561,896 bottles of Champagne were shipped globally, with a value of more than €5 billion. Of these, 25,677,389 bottles of Champagne were shipped to the United States, an increase of 8.3% from 2018, marking the seventh consecutive year of growth in the U.S. Additionally, the value of the U.S. Champagne shipments reached more than $752.6 million in 2019, a 15.3% increase from 2018 and the highest of any country outside of France. The Comité Champagne also announced a new Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), which takes an estimated three to five hours to complete and can be taken anytime. The four educational sessions, which cover the history of Champagne, the terroir that produces it, the winemaking process, and the many different varieties of Champagne wines and how to taste them, are available for free at champagne-mooc.com.
