USBG Cocktail Competition Summer Series Names August Winners

The United States Bartenders’ Guild (USBG) New Haven and Hartford chapters, along with Eder Bros., Inc., and Allan S. Goodman, continued the 2019 USBG Civil War Bartending Competition series with several events in August. West Hartford’s Tisane set the stage for the final North round on August 12, calling for competitors to create cocktails featuring Old Forester Rye Whiskey for judges Bryce Hardy, Rachel Markoja and Jeff Conelius. Jamie Oakes of Millwright’s Restaurant took home the first-place prize, with Jason McClellan of Zohara Mediterranean Kitchen and Porrón & Piña winning second place and Dustin Amore taking third place. The competition continued in the South part of the state with an event at New Milford’s Zaragoza on August 13, featuring Mezan XO Rum, a Jamaican pot still rum. Judged by Vincent Rossetti, Craft Portfolio Manager, Eder Bros., Inc.; Christine Short, Bar Manager, Zaragoza; and Artie Praino, Owner, Zaragoza, three winners emerged: Kory Loga of Bella’Gio Ristorante with first place, Dustin Amore of High George at second place and Dan Reyes of Mezón Tapas Bar & Restaurant, who placed third.
