Horizon Beverage Co. – Wayne division added Vermont-based, veteran-owned craft brewery, 14th Star, to its beer offerings. The business plan for 14th Star Brewery was originally drafted on the back of a notebook by Steve Gagner while serving in the U.S. military on the battlefields of Afghanistan. Upon returning home to Vermont from deployment, Gagner and his best friend, fellow soldier Matt Kehaya, worked to refine their plans to make their dream of 14th Star Brewing Company a reality in 2012. Growing from a 3.5-barrel brewery to its current 30-barrel brewery and taproom in St. Albans, the company’s beer is sold in cans or on tap throughout Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York. Core brews are Tribute Double IPA, with five different hop varieties, bright flavors and aromas of pine, fresh citrus and pineapple; Citranade, a hazy New England Style Double IPA dry-hopped with an abundance of Citra hops for a pleasantly bitter bite and sweet aromatics; and Maple Breakfast Stout, an Oatmeal Stout brewed with Vermont maple syrup and cold brew coffee. 14th Star Brewery donates a portion of the proceeds from all sales of core brews to organizations and various local charities including Purple Hearts Reunited, The Josh Pallotta Fund, American Red Cross, Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports and Martha’s Kitchen.
