Ashford, Connecticut’s Westford Hills Distillers celebrated the 230th anniversary of France’s Bastille Day on July 14 by toasting the Revolution with a Pear Royale cocktail developed by Chef Jean George. Featuring Westford Hill Poire Prisonnière Pear Brandy, the cocktail was served up as a “marriage of an American artisan spirit and French aperitif.” The recipe, which serves two, is as follows: 1 oz. Westford Hill Poire Prisonnière Pear Brandy and 6 oz. White Lillet or another off-dry French aperitif wine. In a cocktail shaker half filled with ice, combine Pear Brandy and Lillet. Shake well and strain into martini glass. Garnish with a pear chip. Westford Hill Distillers is located on 200 acres of property owned by the Chatey family since 1919, where it produces its fine fruit brandies and eaux-de-vies.
