Tom Simpson, Vice President and General Manager of Winebow in Wallingford, visited Cellar Espelt in March. Espelt is located in the Emporda region of Spain, overlooking the sea and surrounded by mountains in Vilajuïga, northeastern Catalonia. Simpson met with Anna Espelt, the eldest daughter of the family-run business that has been making its wines since 2000. Espelt, who studied enology in the U.S., keeps the winery on the cutting edge with experimental vine growing techniques.
