Austrian Selections from Schmidt Offered by Fine Terroir

By July 2, 2021Connecticut, Top News

Fine Terroir welcomed new Austrian wines from Weingut Schmidt. The Schmidt family winery is located about 30 kilometers northwest of Vienna in the Weinviertel wine-growing region, at the foot of the Niederrußbacher Ölberg mountain range. Since 1932, the Schmidt family has cultivated wine through four generations. Its soils range from mighty loess, rich in lime, to lighter loamy soils and light warm sands. This variety offers the right soil for each variety and gives its wines an individual and unmistakable terroir. Schmidt Niederrußbacher Grüner Veltliner, Gelber Muskateller, Riesling Ried Ölberg and Frizzante Schaumwein are newly available in Connecticut.

Schmidt Niederrußbacher Grüner Veltliner is a light and classically elegant wine, with stimulating acidity. Schmidt Niederrußbacher Riesling Ried Ölberg offers freshness on the palate and an invigorating finish. Schmidt Niederrußbacher Gelber Muskateller is delicate and fruity with nutmeg aromas – a complex wine. Schmidt Niederrußbacher Frizzante Schaumwein is a fruity, fresh Riesling with delicate nutmeg notes.
