Massachusetts-based importer and distributor Baystate Wine & Spirits has acquired New Hampshire broker Wineberries. The acquisition will expand Baystate Wine & Spirits efforts in New England. Winebrries was founded in 1998 by Chuck Saunders. No staffing or operational changes are scheduled and Saunders will continue to manage sales and marketing efforts.
Baystate Wine & Spirits was founded in 2005 by Ed and Rob Gillooly. Peter Lucas joined the firm as a partner in 2009, and it was then decided to expand into Rhode Island by founding Oceanstate Wines & Spirits.
“Expanding into New Hampshire was an easy decision following the successful launch of many brands in Massachusetts and then Rhode Island,” said company president Ed Gillooly. “With the continued consolidation of distributors and the advent of mega brands, it creates a huge demand for estate and boutique brands from all over the world. The great family estates capture the right balance of quality, and profit, to our customers.”
Saunders said, “Adding Baystate Wines & Spirits to the existing Wineberries portfolio will be a win/win for us. Some of our portfolio will also be added to Massachusetts and I am excited to be part of the success. My sale staff is very eager to build upon the past accomplishments of Baystate.”
