Bushmills Prohibition Recipe Honors “Peaky Blinders”

By April 28, 2022Rhode Island, Top News

Bushmills Prohibition Recipe Irish Whiskey launched in March with a tie-in through St. Patrick’s Day to connect the 400-year history of Bushmills, the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery, and the Shelby crime family at the center of Netflix’s popular program, “Peaky Blinders.”

Mancini Beverage – Rhode Island Distributing division welcomed Bushmills Prohibition Recipe Irish Whiskey in March, a limited-edition whisky themed after the popular Netflix show “Peaky Blinders.” The series is named after a real-life English street gang, with whiskey playing a feature role throughout. Prohibition Recipe and its blend is “by order of the Shelby Company Ltd.” and its label features a quote from integral character Tommy Shelby, played by actor Cillian Murphy, on the back: “Whiskey’s good proofing water. Tells you who’s real and who isn’t.” The whiskey was overseen by Master Distiller Colum Egan, creating a deep amber color with a dense bouquet of barley, fresh oats, honeycomb, dried fruits and baking spices. The palate is “big and bold,” with flavors of rye bread, orange marmalade, almonds and cinnamon, finishing long and full with zesty citrus oils and vanilla bean. At 46% ABV/92 proof, the blend is 45% single malt and 55% proprietary grain whiskey of 3-, 4- and 5-Year-Old whiskeys, non chill filtered and bourbon barrel aged. A showcased cocktail, the Shelby Sour, was part of the national launch campaign.
