Diageo North America received an Environmental Merit Award from the New England office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its “exceptional work and commitment to the environment.” The award was presented during a special ceremony at Faneuil Hall in Boston, Massachusetts, on September 12. Diageo North America enrolled in the EPA SmartWay program in 2010 to reduce freight-related emissions and by 2018 has achieved 95% of ton miles shipped with SmartWay-certified carriers. Through monthly analysis, Diageo can accurately pinpoint areas of success and areas for improvement, allowing the company to reduce its carbon dioxide impact at a faster rate. Based on monthly reporting, as of 2018, Diageo has decreased its carbon emissions 61% since 2015.
