Monsieur Touton Selection, Ltd., hosted a visit from Escudo Rojo Winemaker Emmanuel Riffaud at Tavern at GrayBarns in Norwalk on June 14. Riffaud provided education on the wines of Escudo Rojo, created by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, and welcomed guests, who enjoyed a lunch prepared by the culinary team at Tavern at GrayBarns on the venue’s patio. Courses were paired with selections of the Chilean wines, including Escudo Rojo Sauvignon Blanc Reserva 2022, Chardonnay Reserva 2021, Pinot Noir Reserva 2021, Syrah Reserva 2021, Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2021, and Gran Reserva 2021 and Baron Philippe de Rothschild Baronesa P. 2020. The wines were also featured by Monsieur Touton at a previous trade luncheon with Riffaud at Terra Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse in Stamford on June 13 and at a public wine dinner at Bin 100 Restaurant in Milford on June 14. Escudo Rojo was created by Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chile, a wholly owned Chilean subsidiary of Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, of Château Mouton Rothschild fame, with a goal to “make the best Chilean wines in each category.” Located at Buin, Maipo, 45 kilometers south of Santiago in the famous Maipo Valley, the Baron Philippe de Rothschild Maipo Chile bodega stands in its 156-acre vineyard.
