A team from Murphy Distributors met with local wine brand founders Ryan and Justine Whalen of Weekday Wines at Lenny’s Indian Head Inn in November, all three businesses of which are based in Branford. Weekday Wines featured a Pinot Noir and a Rosé, each low alcohol, 9% ABV and low calories—80 per glass—with no added sugar. Each is made from certified sustainably grown grapes in Monterey and Sonoma, California, pairing perfectly with those looking to jump-start a healthier New Year’s resolution. “As life got busier and we got older, we did not want to sacrifice the tradition of winding down after a long day with a glass of wine, but also didn’t have time for stress over alcohol or hangovers,” Ryan Whalen said. The Whalens are Branford residents, bottling the first Weekday Rosé in 2021, followed by its Pinot Noir later that same year, designing the label, sourcing bottles and beginning a social media campaign all from their house during the pandemic while managing the duties that come with being parents of two. “We are super excited to not only work with an amazing family-fun brand like Weekday Wines,” said Murphy Distributors President Matthew Murphy, “but one that also fills a need for our customers who are looking for healthier options when deciding what to drink.” Weekday Wines is sourcing a white to add to their line next.
