Newport Vineyards Wins 2021 AFWC Rosé Competition

By July 29, 2021Rhode Island, Top News

Newport Vineyards Dry Rosé won Best in Show at the 2021 American Fine Wine Competition (AWFC). “This lovely Rosé of Cabernet Franc from a surprising East Coast wine region hit all the right notes and captivated the assembled judges,” the AFWC news release said.

Newport Vineyards Dry Rosé won Best in Show at the 2021 Rosé Competition held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on June 19. Lead by the American Fine Wine Competition (AFWC), the Rosé Competition received more than 160 entries, where 16 wine judges awarded 24 Double Gold Medals, 34 Gold Medals and 75 Silver Medals. Newport Vineyards emerged as the top winner, an “unexpected” result from a Rhode Island winery among all entries. Winemaker George Chelf, along with owners John and Paul Nunes, have worked for decades to perfect the rosé portfolio. The wine is comprised of cabernet franc and has notes of red fruit, citrus, melon and rose petal. “Our microclimate just north of Newport is ideal for growing cool-climate rosés. We’re excited to bring this recognition to the Rhode Island winery region,” said Chelf. Newport Vineyards’ Dry Rosé has gained popularity over the “rosé boom” during the last several years; the team also offers a Pinot Noir Rosé and the newly released Great White Rosé.
