Kleos Mastiha Spirit Joins Worldwide Wines Portfolio

By June 27, 2021Connecticut, Top News

Kleos Mastiha Spirit, 30% ABV, offers a floral bouquet, aromas of eucalyptus and tasting notes of cucumber, mint and sweet tea.

Worldwide Wines welcomes Kleos Mastiha Spirit, billed as Greece’s first luxury spirit brand, the world’s first super-premium mastiha liqueur. The raw ingredient, mastiha (mas-tee-hah), is a sap from the Skinos tree that grows only in 24 villages in the southern part of the Greek island of Chios. Mastiha is known as the “diamond of spices” because of its rarity. In the ancient world, it was hailed for a variety of healing properties and has the honor of being the world’s first chewing gum. Effie Panagopoulos, born and raised in Boston to Greek immigrant parents, is noted as the first Greek woman to found a liquor brand, which built on her prior 15 years in the industry, reigniting along the way her connection to Greece and its spirits. Kleos is made by hand in small batches via a distillation of the mastiha tears and the addition of mastiha essential oils. Balanced enough to be consumed on the rocks with a wedge of lemon or as a cocktail ingredient, Kleos mixes 1:1 with every base spirit on a backbar and a myriad of fruits and herbs.
