Southington’s Cava Restaurant hosted a summer margarita tasting event series featuring Altos Tequila during the week of July 20. The tasting, which took place in Cava’s 3,000-square-foot outdoor tent with social-distancing and health measures in place, featured Altos Blanco and Reposado expressions in six margarita flavors: raspberry peach, ocean blue, watermelon, blood orange basil, strawberry and cucumber cilantro. “We made it feel as though it was more normal,” said Tony Papahristou, General Manager, Cava Restaurant. “We tried our best to follow the rules of social distancing but still made it comfortable for people going out.” The tradition of the margarita tasting began on National Tequila Day in 2019 and “it’s been quite a hit for the summer months,” Papahristou said. Now with COVID-19-era guidelines in place, the event has resumed at the popular venue, all outside in its tent and with tables kept a socially distanced six feet apart and with all servers wearing masks. According to Papahristou, all dining at Cava is taking place outdoors, either on the venue’s rooftop or in its tent, for the safety of guests and staff. The venue, which is known for its decadent displays, also recently unveiled its Alice in Wonderland-inspired rooftop. Open daily for lunch and dinner, the rooftop is able to accommodate 75 guests with state guidelines in place. The rooftop garden features artfully sculpted shrubbery depicting famous Alice in Wonderland characters with hidden objects, flowers and water installations mixed throughout.

Cava Restaurant unveiled its Alice in Wonderland-inspired rooftop in June. An Alice in Wonderland-themed cocktail tasting is in the works for late summer, along with a mojito tasting in August featuring Bacardi Rum.
