RI Hospitality Association Hosts Governor in Providence

By June 28, 2021Rhode Island, Top News

Gov. Dan McKee visited the RI Hospitality Association (RIHA) Board of Directors meeting on May 18 at the Providence Marriott Downtown. Discussions focused on reopening the hospitality industry, as COVID-19 restrictions were lifted on May 21, and to talk with business leaders about staffing concerns among a slow start to post-restriction hiring. Matthew Weldon, Acting Director of the RI Department of Labor and Training, was also present to discuss legislation aimed at “getting people back to work.” Gov. McKee signed legislation on May 21 that makes changes to unemployment benefits in order to incentivize potential workers into the job market. The legislation was fast-tracked through the General Assembly by legislative leaders to help businesses hire workers in time for the summer season, said RIHA representatives. RIHA member McGrath Clambakes & Catering of Newport provided lunch.
