Seedlip Nonalcoholic Spirits Launches in Rhode Island

Seedlip Garden 108, a fresh, herbal blend of peas and traditional garden herbs, including rosemary, thyme and spearmint; Seedlip Grove 42, a bright, citrus blend of Mediterranean orange, lemon peel, lemongrass and ginger with a dry finish; and Seedlip Spice 94, a warm, aromatic blend of allspice and cardamom with fresh citrus top notes to balance the long bitter finish.

Mancini Beverage – Providence Beverage Co. division began offering British import Seedlip, a plant-based liquor substitute for use in nonalcoholic mixed drinks. Billed as the “the world’s first distilled non-alcoholic spirits,” Seedlip was launched in 2015 by founder Ben Branson. The Seedlip name derives from a historic use of distilled herbal remedies. Branson’s inspirations for Seedlip come from history, including a work published in 1651 titled “The Art of Distillation” by physician John French documenting nonalcoholic recipes for medical maladies and the same-era practice of farming by hand-sowing seeds using baskets called “seedlips.” Branson took these ideas, plus his own interest in handcrafted, nonalcoholic cocktails, perfecting his distilled nonalcoholic spirits. Using a bespoke, six-week maceration, distillation, filtration and blending process – for which each individual botanical ingredient is distilled separately, before blending – the process results in a liquid devoid of alcohol and sugar. Its three expressions, which are best highlighted served in premium tonic, are Seedlip Spice 94, Seedlip Garden 108 and Seedlip Grove 42.
